File Menu

The File menu is used to perform operations concerning files, such as saving, opening/closing the Figure Window, quitting Shade3D, importing/exporting various files including Shade3D object data, and specifying print settings.

New
Opens a new Figure Window, creating a new scene. You can switch between scenes using the tabs below Shade3D's Title Bar.
Open...
Opens the Open File dialog, allowing you to select a file to open.
Open Recent (Mac OS X)
Names of documents (files) which have been used recently in Shade3D are displayed here. Select a file from the submenu to open it. This makes it easy to open a recently-used scene without going through a dialog. Select Clear Menu from the submenu to clear the list of recent files.
Close
Closes the active Shade3D scene in the Figure Window. If the scene has not been saved, a dialog appears, asking whether or not you would like to save it.
Save
Saves the active Shade3D scene in the Figure Window, overwriting the file. If you are saving the file for the first time, a Save As dialog appears allowing you to choose a new name.
Save As...
Opens a Save As dialog, allowing you to save the file in the active Figure Window with a new name.
Revert (Mac OS X)
Reverts the active scene to its last-saved state.
Scene Info...
Opens the Scene Info dialog, which displays information about the current scene.

Import
Imports object data from the specified file into the current scene. The file formats available for import vary according to the Shade3D grade (Basic, Standard, Professional).

Note Shade3D Professional and Standard can import many file formats using plugins. For information on the file formats that can be imported using plugins, see Import / Export.

Shape...
Imports Shade3D shape data into the current scene.
Pose...
Imports a pose file (.shdpse) in which the joint values of the configured hierarchical structure are saved. The hierarchical structures of joints must correspond when importing the pose file.
Wavefront OBJ...
Imports shape data from a Wavefront OBJ file into the current scene. Importing the Wavefront OBJ format allows you to manipulate materials and UV information.
DXF...
Imports shape data from a DXF file (.dxf) into the current scene. Minute differences may result from differences in the software tools used to create the DXF file.
EPSF
Imports Bezier curve data from an EPSF file (.eps) or Adobe Illustrator file (.ai) into the Top View of the Figure Window as a two-dimensional object. This can be used to import font outlines and logos.
Export
Converts and exports Shade3D shape data to other formats. The file formats available for export vary according to the Shade3D grade (Basic, Standard, Professional).

Note Shade3D Professional and Standard can export many file formats using plugins. For information on the file formats that can be exported using plugins, see Import / Export.

Shade3D Scene...
Exports all the shape data in the Shade3D scene.
Shape...
Exports the current shape as Shade3D shape data.
Pose...
Exports the settings of joints in the scene (which include the pipe character "|") as a Pose file (.shdpse).
Lock...
Available in Professional. Exports all the shape data in the scene to a new, password-protected scene file. Available security restrictions are: Lock rendered image size, Disable Save. Also, new shapes cannot be created.
FBX
Exports shapes in FBX format (.fbx). FBX is a file format popularized by by applications from Autodesk.

iClone (Windows)
Exports shapes in FBX format specifically for use within the iClone design system.

Caution The iClone exporter is a first release that allows you to use the dynamic data link feature of Reallusion iClone version 5. Additional improvements are planned for future versions of Shade3D.
iClone 5 or higher and Reallusion 3DXchange4 or higher are required in order to use iClone Exporter.

Wavefront OBJ...
Exports shapes in Wavefront OBJ format. Exporting the Wavefront OBJ format allows you to manipulate materials and UV information.
QTVR Panorama
Exports a Shade3D scene as a virtual reality movie that can be opened with Apple's QuickTime Player. The Shade3D scene can be viewed in 360 degrees horizontally, centered on the eye point set in the virtual space.
QTVR Cubic
Exports a Shade3D scene as a virtual reality movie that can be opened with Apple's QuickTime Player. The display direction can be rotated in 360 degrees horizontally and in +/- 90 degrees vertically, centered on the eye point set in the virtual space.
QTVR Object
Exports a Shade3D scene as a virtual reality movie that can be opened with Apple's QuickTime Player. The eye point can be rotated in 360 degrees horizontally and in +/- 90 degrees vertically, centered on the eye target set in the virtual space.
Animation Master
Exports curved surfaces in Animation Master version 4 (.seg) format.
DXF...
Exports the current shape as a DXF file (.dxf).
RIB
Exports the current shape as an RIB file (.rib). The exported file will retain the hierarchical structure and the names of the shapes.
Print...
Prints the image in the Image Window. The Print dialog, in which the printer and the number of copies can be specified, opens after selecting Print... For details on using the Print dialog, refer to your computer's documentation.

Note Print resolution is fixed at 72 dpi. To print high-quality images, saving the rendered image to a file and then printing from image editing software is recommended.

Print Setup... (Windows)
Opens a dialog in which you can specify printer and paper settings.
Page Setup... (Mac OS X)
Opens a dialog in which you can specify printer and paper settings.
Recent Scenes (Windows)
Names of documents (files) which have been used recently in Shade3D are displayed here. Select a file from the submenu to open it.
Exit (Windows)
Closes the Figure Window and exits Shade3D. If the contents of the Figure Window (the scene or scenes) have not been saved, a dialog appears, asking whether or not you would like to save them.
