Differences from Previous Versions of Shade3D
When doing calulations, memory usage and processing speed have been greatly improved.
Because vertices are generated adaptively for generated polygons, smoother objects with few errors can be created.
Usage
Select one or more shapes to apply the wrapping mesh to.
From the menu bar, select Tools > Modify Tools > Wrapping Mesh.
From the Toolbox, select Modify > Tools > Wrapping Mesh.
Click Apply in the Tool Parameters to apply the wrapping mesh.
Tool Parameters
- Type Pop-up Menu
- Adaptive or Legacy can be selected for the wrapping mesh calculation method.
- Legacy uses the Shade 3D ver. 15.0 calculation method. Using Adaptive is generally recommended.
- Preprocess Settings
- In Legacy mode, only the Surface Subdivision pop-up menu is available.
- Surface Subdivision Pop-up Menu
- When converting curved surfaces or objects with Round Edge applied to polygon meshes, the level of surface subdivision can be set to No subdivision, Coarse, Regular, Fine, or Very Fine.
- Finer levels of subdivision will divide the original object into more polygons before applying the wrapping mesh.
- Because Shade3D primitives and curved surfaces are normally created with a low level of subdivision, when exporting objects for 3D printing polygon corners tend to look obvious. Use this setting to more finely subdivide the polygon surface so that corners and edges between polygons appear smooth.
- Note: Changing the Figure Window display to Flat Shading can make it easier to check for these problems.
- Unify Normals
- When selected, corrects normals so that they all face outward.
- Non-Watertight Shapes Pop-up Menu
- Specifies how to process non-watertight shapes. Select from Fill Holes, Thicken, Ignore, and Remove.
- Mesh Generation Settings
- In Legacy mode, only the Voxelize Division pop-up menu is available.
- Voxelize Division Pop-up Menu
- Specifies the level of voxelization division. Select from Custom, Coarse, Regular, Fine, and Very Fine.
- Finer levels result in a generated polygon mesh with greater precision.
- Voxelize Division Textbox
- Specifies numerically the level of voxel subdivision of the generated mesh.
- Adaptive Level Pop-up Menu
- Specifies the adaptive level of generated vertices. Select None or from 1 to 5.
- This sets the degree to merge vertices that would not greatly affect objects on a flat plane.
- Edge Optimization
- When selected, optimizes the edges.
- This can avoid sharp corners and fine crevices to a degree.
- Calculation times increase with more polygons.
- Separate Shells
- When selected, separates the shells.
- Remove Small Shells
- When selected, removes small shells generated by voxelization errors.
- Show Alert Message
- When selected, a warning message is displayed if the number of polygons to be generated is large.
- Auto Refresh
- When selected, applies the Tool Parameter settings in realtime.
- Update
- Applies changes to the Tool Parameter settings.
- Apply
- Applies the wrapping mesh and ends processing.
- Cancel
- Ends processing without applying the wrapping mesh.
