Alignment

The Alignment Window controls make comparisons by shape, size, and/or position in order to align or arrange selected objects. Multiple objects inside a part are considered one object. Alignment requires two or more objects or parts must be selected. Alignment controls cannot handle objects within one selected part. They are valid on the global and local coordinate systems respectively.

Arranging Objects Along a Line

This function is used to arrange the selected objects along a line object.

How to Arrange Objects Along a Line

When Auto is selected in the Spacing pop-up menu and if the parameter checkbox is off, the objects are arranged with equal spacing from the start point to the end point. If it is on, the objects are arranged, taking account of the line object control points.

When Number is selected from the Spacing pop-up menu, the objects are arranged from the start point, spaced with the value specified in the Spacing text box. After the end point, if the last control point has a line handle, the orientation is set toward the handle, or if the last control point has no handle, the orientation is set toward the direction of the line object joined to the control point.

parameter Checkbox
The parameter checkbox enables the objects to be arranged along a line object. The parameter checkbox, if it is on, specifies object distribution when Auto is selected in the Spacing pop-up menu. If the checkbox is off, the objects are arranged with equal spacing from the start point to the end point.
If the checkbox is on, the objects are arranged on the line object control points.
When the number of objects is greater than the number of control points, the objects are placed between adjacent control points as evenly as possible according to tangent handle length. The case where the number of control points is greater than the number of objects is the same as the case where the parameter checkbox is off.
Update Button
Use this to arrange the objects along the line object. Clicking this button rearranges the selected objects to the memorized line object. The memorized line object and its control points are changeable anytime. It is not necessary to memorize it whenever it is changed.
Offset Box
Use the offset box to arrange the objects along the memorized line object.
Click the box, and then specify the position of the objects to be placed to the specified line object position.
The offset box corresponds to the rectangle tangent to the object as viewed from the top of the Viewport selected in the Viewport popup menu. Clicking the center, corner, or middle point of the box, holding down the Space key allows you to input the position precisely. The position specified by the offset box applies to all objects. It may not apply to specific objects.
Vertical Offset
Specifies the vertical offset of objects from the memorized line object. This is the offset along the Y axis when aligning in the Top viewport; in the Front viewport this is the Z axis offset, and in the Right viewport this is the X axis offset.
The Vertical Offset slider is defaulted to 0.50, which sets the object center to the line object position. Vertical Offset applies to all objects.
