Window Layout Selector
The Window Layout Selector makes it easy to switch between window layouts specifically designed to help facilitate a certain task, such as animating or working with UV maps. There are eight preset window layouts: . In addition to the presets, you can create and save custom window layouts. You can also specify a window layout as the initial layout displayed when opening a new scene.
Window Layouts
Window layouts are collections of user-customizable interface settings, including the Control Bar, Figure Window, Status Bar and several control windows such as ShadeExplorer, Motion Window, Browser, Tool Parameters Window and more. Collectively, these settings are known as a window layout.

The following display features can be saved to a window layout:
- The view separator size and location of the Figure Window.
- The current display view types in figure window (Perspective view, Front view, etc.)
- The current display mode in each views such as Wireframe, Hidden Wireframe, Shading, etc.
- The shown/hide and dock/undock status of each control window.
Switching Between Window Layouts
To switch to a different window layout, click the corresponding button on the Window Layout Selector. You can also select the window layout name from the Window menu.
Saving a Window Layout
The current window layout can be saved to the Window Layout Selector as a custom layout.
- Click the "+" button in the Window Layout Selector, or from the Window menu, select Save Window Layout...
- Enter a name for the custom window layout in the dialog box that opens.

Removing and Arranging Window Layouts
Click the "-" button in Window Layout Selector, or from the Window menu, select Manage Window Layouts... The Manage Window Layouts dialog box opens. Select the layout from the list and click the Remove button.

- To delete all custom window layouts, click the Remove All button.
- To arrange window layouts, select a layout from the list and click Move Up or Move Down to move the selected layout to the desired position.
- To undo all changes, click the Reset button.
Note It is also possible to arrange the order from the Window Layout Selector by dragging the corresponding button along the selector bar.
Resetting a Preset Window Layout to the Default
To reset the currently selected preset layout to its original default arrangement, select Window > Revert Selected Preset Window Layout.
Resetting All Preset Window Layouts
To reset all window layout presets to their original default settings, select Window > Revert All Preset Window Layouts.
Setting the Default Window Layout for New Scenes
- Open the Preferences dialog.
- (Win) Select Edit > Preferences...
- (Mac) Select Shade3D > Preferences...
- Select the Scene tab.
- Under Window Layout, select the desired layout to use as the default from the list.
- Click the OK button.
